Stephen Bishop grew up in Plano, Texas. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas Tech University with an emphasis in Metalsmithing/ Jewelry Design. His conceptual jewelry has been displayed throughout the United States. Using precious metals and glass to create autobiographical narratives Stephen has used art as a tool in his life for healing.
While attending Tech he was introduced to glass as an art making material. After the first gather he shifted gears and has worked with this material for the last 11 years. He has worked in various production studios throughout Texas and has built his own studio where he currently creates various glass objects. His art background has allowed him to be part of several projects both nationally and internationally.
Bishop’s teaching experience is versatile. He has taught all age levels and skill levels ranging from special needs children to continuing education workshops for adults. He has also taught many mediums and sees the importance of the creative process and its therapeutic benefits. Currently, Stephen is working at Lamar Middle School teaching Visual art, he also is involved in a therapeutic art program for children and adults. He loves his family, church, dog, and the lake.
Bishop’s teaching philosophy is very simple and applies to everyone!
“It is important to remember that the process is just as important as the product. We are all created in God’s image and God is a creator so it is obvious that we can all create! We just have to find what medium suites you.” Stephen Bishop "Art Saves Lives!" Artist and Teacher
