Welding Until the end of the 19th century, the only welding process was forge welding, which blacksmiths had used for
centuries to join iron and steel by heating and hammering them. Arc welding and oxyfuel welding were among the first
processes to develop late in the century, and resistance welding followed soon after. Welding technology advanced quickly
during the early 20th century as World War I and World War II drove the demand for reliable and inexpensive joining
methods. Following the wars, several modern welding techniques were developed, including manual methods like
shielded metal arc welding, now one of the most popular welding methods

Salado Arts Workshop Welding Artists

Beginning Welding 101 (3 HRS) 4 week workshop

In this comprehensive workshop, students will learn the basic skills and techniques of ARC welding.  Metal
composition and theory will serve as the basis for learning how to weld different metal types.  Once shown
the basics, students will be guided through different exercises and projects that will implement their
understanding of beginning welding skills.  Although guided and instructed, students will be encouraged to
use their own creativity to make their projects unique; within the guidelines of the project itself. Both
2-dimensional and 3-dimensional sculpting, through welding will be concentrated on.
